Jesus said: All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me.” (Matt 28:18)
Starting at the age of 18, I started talking to leaders about preaching. Time and time again the door was shut in my face. Politically correct leaders would tell me I need to go to seminary. The more direct leaders would simply tell me I could not preach. Bottom line, someone like me was never going to preach. This has been my experience in the Church for over 20 years.
Amos 2 (11-12) tells us that God raised up prophets, but they were commanded not to prophesy. A few chapters later, a false priest accuses Amos of conspiracy against the king and explicitly tells the prophet to get out of Israel.
But how does Amos respond – he says, “I was no prophet, nor was I a son of a prophet”. In other words, I was no professional pastor or public speaker. I was just a regular guy. But what does God tell Amos, he says, “Go, prophesy to my people”.
Several places in this chapter, it uses the words Adonay Yahweh or Sovereign LORD. What does Adonay mean? It means lord, master, or owner. Adonay owns everything, including you and me. So how do you respond to the One who owns everything? How do you respond?
When Adonay commands you to speak his word, you speak it!
Who has all authority?
Is it a man, pastor, or religious leaders?
NO – it is the Lord Jesus Christ!
